(June 3, 2017) The community development organization We Stay/Nos Quedamos honored the late Dra. Evelina Lopez-Antonetty (founder of United Bronx Parents, Inc.), and the daughter who carried on her legacy, Lorraine Montenegro. The awards presentation took place during their “We Are Melrose” Block Party, held on East 160th Street between Elton and Melrose Aves.

(June 1, 2017) A special summer presentation dedicated to lives of three women is the result of a collaboration between the Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education and the Bronx Music Heritage Center. “Las Tres Hermanas: Art & Activism” follows the journey of Evelína, Lillian and Elba from the island of Puerto Rico to New York City through photographs, text, illustrations, and discussions.

(May 28, 2017) The 30th Annual Loisaida Festival celebrated their immigrant and migrant communities. The eventful day showcased music, art, dance, and theater performances infused with Samba, Reggae, Bomba y Plena, Bohemia, Mambo, Rock-n-Roll, Flamenco, Cabezones and Nuyorican influences.

(May 24, 2017) A memorial mural graces a wall by a corner at Morrison & Westchester Avenues. It honors Bronx native Yadira Arroyo — the NYFD EMT killed in the line of duty on March 16, 2017.
(April 20-22, 2017) Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture presented what could only be described as an outstanding tribute to Latin Music legend Ernesto Antonio “Tito” Puente. The 3-day event titled Tito Puente Retrospective: 50 Years of ‘El Rey’ worked the historic landscape of his journey, planted fresh seeds in the here and now, and celebrated another bounty of young musicians inspired by the priceless contributions of Puente’s genius and mastery.
