Eddie Palmieri’s Sabiduria @ Lehman Center for the Performing Arts

(September 28, 2013) The Lehman Center for the Performing Arts launched its 33rd Season with the World Premiere of Sabiduria. The group is the latest jazz venture by the legendary pianist of Latin Music and NEA Jazz Master, Eddie Palmieri.

Joining Palmieri for the debut were Anthony Carrillo (Bongo, Bata), Luques Curtis (Bass), Vicente “Little Johnny” Rivero (Congas, Bata), and Camilo Molina (Timbales, Bata). Their set featured special appearances by Ronnie Cuber (baritone sax), Alfredo de la Fe (violin), Joe Locke (vibes), and the sensational New Orleans Jazz saxophonist Donald Harrison.

What proved to be an evening of swinging performances was started off by the Mambo Legends Orchestra, under the musical direction of John “Dandy” Rodriguez, Jose Madera & Mitch Frohman. The core of this 21-piece Grammy-nominated orchestra is comprised of long-time musicians from the former Tito Puente Orchestra. Lead and background vocals were shared by Frankie Vazquez, Marcos Bermudez and Cita Rodriguez. Notably absent from their performance was veteran pianist Sonny Bravo.
