5th Annual Black Comic Book Festival

Schomburg Center's 5th Annual Black Comic Book Festival

(January 14, 2017) For the first time, the Schomburg Center’s Black Comic Book Festival presented two full days of programming celebrating the empowering tradition of black independent comic and cartoon artists, writers and publishers. Over 50 exhibitors took part in the 5th annual event, bringing with them all the magic and colors of the art.

Attendance on Saturday was overwhelming — far exceeding the center’s capacity. Festival goers formed lines down the block, enduring the cold for the opportunity to be part of the excitement.

The Schomburg Center’s 5th Annual Black Comic Book Festival was co-founded by Deirdre Hollman (Director of Education and Exhibitions), Jerry Craft (Mama’s Boyz and The Offenders), John Jennings (Black Kirby/UC Riverside), and Jonathan Gayles (Georgia State University).
