La India @ SummerStage 2017
(July 28, 2017) Beloved songstress Linda Viera Caballero ‘La India’ returned to her childhood home, as part of the SummerStage 2017 calendar of featured concerts. Thousands of fans spilled out across the lawn at St. Mary’s Park in front and around the performance venue, eagerly anticipating a rare treat from the Latin Grammy winner who grew up in the South Bronx.
When La India hit the stage, the crowd was absolutely electric. Quickly, musical conductor Isidro Infante sparked the band into rhythm, as La India spun a tribute to the woman known as “La Guarachera del Mundo” — the late Celia Cruz. She went on to render more fan favorites, working her magic, and, literally, smoking up a few sound speakers along the way.
Also appearing earlier at the St. Mary’s Park free concert: Joe Burgos, Director of New York’s Piel Canela Dance Company, offering up a Salsa dance workshop; and Latin music mixing by La Mega DJ.
