(April 16, 2016) The outstanding Grupo Niche from Colombia kicked off its 35th Anniversary celebration at “La Casa de la Salsa” — Lehman Center for the Performing Arts. The tight, well-polished 10-piece band with its three front men gave the packed house two sets of driving swing and up-beat romance.
(March 19, 2016) Two legitimate heavies of classic Salsa music performed to a capacity audience at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts. Singers Ismael Miranda and Andy Montañez brought swing to The Bronx venue with their celebrated vocal instruments.
(January 16, 2016) New York and Cuba came together on-stage at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts. !Al Rojo Vivo! featured two of the oldest Latin music institutions still active: Orquesta Broadway and Septeto Nacional de Cuba Ignacio Piñeiro (direct from Cuba).
(September 19, 2015) Lehman Center for the Performing Arts kicked off their 35th Season with A “Tribute to the Big Bands.” Headlining the Mambo Era spectacular were the Machito Orchestra under the direction of Machito’s son Mario Grillo, and the Mambo Legends Orchestra led by John “Dandy” Rodriguez, Musical Director Jose Madera and Mitch Frohman.
(June 25, 2015) Summerstage 2015/Crotona Park racked-up some points with their presentation of the “Lyricist Lounge.” The hip hop showcase started by Danny Castro and Anthony Marshall in 1991 was in true form as a major venue for promoting the genre.
(June 24, 2015) Summer is now official! Bringing it to Crotona Park in the Bronx with a fresh schedule of 30th Anniversary events is Summerstage 2015.
(December 14, 2014) Lehman Center for the Performing Arts held it 10th Annual Parranda Navideña featuring La música tradicional de Puerto Rico. The smash seasonal holiday showcase included performances by Lily y su Gran Trio, Odilio Gonzalez “El Jibarito de Lares,” José Miguel Class “El Gallito de Manatí,” 5 en Plena, Estampas, and Conjunto Ritmo Tropical, direct from the island of Puerto Rico.
(September 6, 2014) The “Renegades of Rhythm” Tour got a running start at Irving Plaza in New York City. The tour headlines veteran Mix-Meister DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist, and it celebrates the legacy of Universal Zulu Nation founder Afrika Bambaataa. All the music mixed by the two DJs, during their set, is pulled from Bambaataa’s, now famous, 42,000 vinyl records collection, recently, procured by the Cornell University Hip Hop Archive.
(July 27, 2014) Rock Steady Crew celebrated its 37th Anniversary at the Rumsey Playfield in Central Park, as part of the 2014 SummerStage NYC Concerts season. Founded in 1977 by Bronx b-boys Jimmy D and Jimmy Lee, Rock Steady Crew has since become a worldwide franchise.
(July 12, 2014) The 10th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival was a coup d’etat for all permutations of celebrated rappers, rhymers, lyricists, MCs, and spitters, to say the least. The hard working crew at Brooklyn Bodega scored a big one with their 2014 production.
