PHOTO: New York Ricans celebrate the delectable ‘pastel’ in El Barrio
(November 18, 2017) One of the celebrated staples of Puerto Rican holiday cuisine is ‘el pastel.’ A social gathering organized by artist Taína Traverso turns a spotlight on this delectable source of traditional sustenance, nutrition, and joyful cultural notions of family and social gatherings.

(May 25, 2014) In the Bronx, the dancers and drummers of BombaYo gathered on the great lawn of the Andrew Freedman Home to present their 6th Annual BomBarBecue. The fundraising event drew hundreds of community members who were treated to an afternoon of Bomba performances and authentic Puerto Rican foods.
(December 15, 2013) A confluence of prominent talent from the plena community at El Maestro Centro Cultural y Educativo for the 2nd Plenazo Callejero. The event was organized as a fund-raiser for the center which is also the home of Juan Laporte’s Boxing Gym.
(October 26, 2013) The New York Coordinator to Free Oscar López held a benefit concert at the Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture. The show, part of a three-day schedule of events, featured a long line-up of on-stage performances, as well as various artisans and a mock 6-by-9-foot cell set up in the lobby of the center’s main lobby.
