(August 20, 2016) The Bronx Music Heritage Center whipped up more summer entertainment, this time as part of the month long celebration Bronx SalsaFest. ‘Women in Salsa’ featured a poetic recital by “La Madrina” Sandra Maria Esteves — one of founders of the Nuyorican Poetry Movement — accompanied by percussionist Bobby Sanabria.
(July 8, 2015) Fania All-Star legend Ismael Miranda performed at St. Mary’s Park in The Bronx as part of the Summerstage 2015 live–concert series. Miranda who grew up in Loisaida and later returned to Puerto Rico, felt right at home with the large turn-out of Boricuas. Ismael and his group were later joined by Jose Alberto who will be celebrating his 40th Anniversary in music at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing 2015.
(June 14, 2014) SummerStage 2014 has launched a 50th Anniversary celebration of the iconic record label FANIA. The summer long commemoration is part of its annual city-wide outdoor concerts line-up.
(May 18, 2014) The 43rd annual Bronx Week, 10-day celebration of all things Bronx, culminated in the Bedford Park | Norwood sections of the Mosholu Parkway with a full-blown show of grandeur and pride. Thousands made their way over to the 2014 Bronx Week Food, Arts & Music Festival, after the annual parade, for some home-town fun and partying.
(December 15, 2013) A confluence of prominent talent from the plena community at El Maestro Centro Cultural y Educativo for the 2nd Plenazo Callejero. The event was organized as a fund-raiser for the center which is also the home of Juan Laporte’s Boxing Gym.
(September 28, 2013) The Lehman Center for the Performing Arts launched its 33rd Season with the World Premiere of Sabiduria. The group is the latest jazz venture by the legendary pianist of Latin Music and NEA Jazz Master, Eddie Palmieri.
(August 31, 2013) Jose “Dr. Drum” Ortiz returned to the place where he had spent many years of his life teaching drum culture — Fordham Plaza in the Bronx. It was his way of saying thanks to an area that had opened up its space to him, so that he could teach others about the drum. Those transformations allowed him to work out answers to some questions residing in his head.
(August 17, 2013) The most recorded Salsa singer in the world celebrated a 45 year career at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts. Puerto Rican salsero Ismael Miranda, one of the few surviving members of the Fania All-Stars, was greeted by a packed house of fans and peers who came to honor this mile-stone.

(June 8, 2013) Salsa icon Willie Colón performed at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, the evening before the National Puerto Rican Day Parade. The turn-out was exceptional, considering Bronxites had become accustomed to celebrating with El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico.
